A youthful wind blew through Bourbon Street in Pointe-Claire this passed 14th of October. The idea behind the show was to celebrate young songwriters/composers/performers. With two headliners, the young band Runaways Slide, and the Vincent Druda Blues Band, were pumped up and motivated by the large crowd of supporters that attended the show. Hot off their Lys Blues victory in the Upcoming Band category, Runaway Slide opened the night with a set that included songs from legends like The Jimmy Hendrix , Robert Johnson, and Stevie Ray Vaughn, along with their personalized version of ‘Hideaway’ and several of their own originals, including ‘28’. The level of musicality achieved by this power trio, at such a young age, is something that has to be seen and heard to be believed! Musically speaking, the group has evolved enormously, from winning different contests a couple of years ago to playing a complete concert this past summer such as when they played the blues festival at l’Ile d’Orléans near Québec City. That was a giant step for these three musicians, Justin Saladino on vocals and guitar, Adam Passalacqua on the drums, and Matthew Passalacqua on bass guitar. The show they played at Bourbon Street will be aired on ‘Le Net Blues Radio’ in November. If you can’t wait for the radio show you can download their performance of the instrumental piece HIDEAWAY from that night. Listen, and enjoy. http://www.lenetblues.com/RunawaySlide-Bourbon2008.html Réjean Nadon
